Borosilicate, the glass used in all the pictured products is very hard. It is similar to Pyrex and Corning ware, can be subjected to extreme temperature changes. The sparkles within certain pieces are made from dichroic borosilicate glass, a spin-off of the space industry. Dichroic is defined as the property of having more than one color, especially when viewed from different angles. A process called 'thin film' physics produces dichroic-coated glass. To get this, thin layers of metallic oxides such as titanium, silicon, and magnesium are deposited upon the surface of the glass in a high temperature vacuum furnace.
All these pieces are fashioned free hand in the flame of a torch. The glass is then treated by annealing to fruther strengthen the jewelry pieces. I hope you enjoy the beauty and colors of these items as I do.
